I chipped the enamel on tooth and my normal dentist was out of town. Dr Changs office fit me in and had me in a chair within an hour. From the time I entered the front door to the time I left the atmosphere and hospitality was on point. I’m not sure I’ve been to a place with such a positive atmosphere in quite some time. Dr Chang was very quick informative and a great teacher, before he did anything he told me what he was gonna do. As he was doing the procedure, he was telling me what and how he was doing it. I am a VERY anxious dental patient. From the counter staff to my dental assistant and most importantly, Dr. Chang, they were all calm, welcoming and reassuring. I was my dental assistant's last patient of the day but she never displayed any rush to leave. She was calm and spoke kindly and let me ramble due to my anxiety. She even asked me what I was thinking. Finally, I needed a tooth extracted and my Dentist closed up shop. I didn't know it and he never left a referral. In my pursuit to find another I asked my neighbor who his Dentist was. It was the best referral of my life. Dr. Chang is gentle, relaxed and easy spoken. He removed the tooth quite easily since it would already move. I have no dental insurance. His fee was budget friendly. And he's not bad to look at if you have to have dental work. My fear has been diminished and I am going to keep him as my dentist. Everyone is pleasant and professional. If you are looking for a dentist, he's your man.

His staff was able to scan my teeth and walked me through what to expect step by step. When my retainer/mouth guard came in, they fit great and were better quality than the ones I'd previously gotten from the orthodontist. THE FRIENDLIEST staff I have ever been around. I've been terrified of the dentist since I was a child. They went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and calm. OMG. I called their number Sunday evening, Monday morning I had an antibiotic script waiting for me at the pharmacy.

My tooth needed to come out now, I could not eat or sleep. Dr Chang took me at 7:30 in morning on Tuesday which I asked for.

Dr. Chang has an excellent bedside manner; explains everything to you and is Very Caring through the whole procedure. He is the BEST. I will never go anywhere else, because when you get the best, there is no other place to go.

I got my first cavity at 35 years old, and I was dreaded getting it fixed. Palms sweating and shaking lol, the whole lot. I was super nervous! I had absolutely nothing to worry about though. MEET YOUR CORPUS CHRISTI FAMILY DENTIST

Dr. Derek Chang, DDS, was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. He started at Windsor Park Elementary, attended Baker Middle School, and graduated from Mary Carroll High School in 2003.

From there, he went on to Texas A&M College Station, where he met his beautiful wife while studying for his bachelor’s degree in Biology. Dr. Chang is a 2011 graduate of Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, TX, where he was involved with many organizations and served in several different officer positions.

He was also named to the Baylor College of Dentistry Dean’s Honor List in 2011.

After finishing dental school, Dr. D excitedly returned to Corpus Christi to serve the community he grew up in.

Dr. Chang prides himself on treating patients with respect and care. He has made every effort to create a state-of-the-art dental practice, bringing energy and enthusiasm into your oral health care.

Dr. Chang puts a lot of value on patient education in oral health, disease prevention, and tooth decay. Dr. Chang is active in the local component of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and Corpus Christi Dental Study Club. In staying active with these societies, Dr. D has the opportunity to pursue continuing education and professional development.

In 2017, Dr. Chang was inducted as a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, receiving the FAGD designation. Fewer than 10% of dentists hold this designation nationwide, which signifies recognition as a leader by colleagues and exemplifies the importance of quality continuing dental education.

Requirements to apply for this designation include 500 continuing education hours, passing a written test, and being a member for three consecutive years.

Dr. Chang is also active in community organizations. He is a Leadership Corpus Christi class of 42 graduate and 2012 recipient of the Corpus Christi 40 Under 40 award and served on the organization’s steering committee between 2015 and 2017. He is currently a Buc Days commissioner.

He emphasizes compassion and dedication to serving his patients. As an office, we promise to keep the practice philosophy of always putting the patient first.
